Hīkoi mō te Tiriti

Hīkoi mō te Tiriti, Te Whanganui a Tara, 19th November 2024.

Sydrina Nicholls was one of 50 Whanganui residents who travelled to Wellington by bus yesterday to join the hīkoi to parliament.

"Today when I showed up at the bus, I am just blown away about how I am one of four Māori on this bus- the rest are all Tangata Tiriti [those who belong to this land by right of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi], of many kinds...Pākehā, chinese... and it's beautiful, and I feel amazing. I feel grateful to be here with these people, and to be walking together today"

Whanganui No. 3 Hardback

Nixon Street Recordings releases single from local artist, Tamsyn.

Local Whanganui record label Nixon Street Recordings is making producing and releasing our great local music artists a whole lot easier and effective.

Tamsyn's new single "Can't Explain"

Kia ora my name is Brian Baker, I'm a producer and session musician based in Whanganui, running a local record studio Nixon Street Recordings. I first spotted Tamsyn when I was the Musical Director of the Whanganui Musicians Club Songwriting Competition earlier this year. While her track in the competition “Waiting On A Whisper” didn’t take out first prize, (those recordings are yet to be released) Tamsyn pushed on with her musical journey by recording this song “Can’t Explain” at Nixon Street.

The studio time was absolute magic.  It's an awesome set up.  I honestly cannot get the smile off my face.  Brian is fantastic to work with. You feel super comfortable and can just relax and be creative.

Tamsyn is an incredibly talented Whanganui artist, finally getting the attention her music deserves. The track was released on the 11th of October and is available on Spotify and all the streaming platforms. It's already getting some good airplay and has been added to several playlists.

About Nixon Street Recordings

I moved to Whanganui last year with a dream to open a professional recording studio, and to assist local artists by helping them to produce their best work.

Now that the studio is open and servicing happy clients I have added to the dream by opening up a boutique record label Nixon Street Recordings, and offering to release local artists nationally and internationally.

I look after all aspects of the release, getting it placed on Spotify and digital streaming platforms, as well as creating social media video content and promoting the artists music out to an extensive network.

Ngā mihi,
Brian Baker
